Behind the Lens
November 13, 2009
I am a Californian Canadian; I moved to Canada for love (loves name is Kevin) but I still miss having an orange tree in my backyard.
I love my family.
I love my husband (he is a new husband).
My best friend is my sister. Until I met Kevin, Meredith was the rock in my life; now I have two rocks.
My first camera was a Fischer Price blue and yellow contraption that I only remember using to photograph Yosemite when I was seven years old; and I might be making that age up.
I found my love for photography in a basement bar in Japan, when I met a man named Carlos.
I went to photo school and won a few awards but value the people that I met there the most.; people always matter the most.
The most amazing thing I ever ate was an oyster, but only because someone told me that before I ate it I had to close my eyes and imagine the ocean.
When I close my eyes and imagine the ocean, I imagine a northwestern beach: a rocky beach, fog rolling in at dawn, the sound of the waves and it makes me hungry.
My favorite smell is that of a river at dusk.
I broke my leg on a zip line and have had to have three knee operations as a result; anesthesia and bed rest are the worst; morphine doesn’t make the pain go away, it just makes you not care; and Netflix may have saved my sanity.
The best use of my Psychology degree, from Cal, is people watching; I like to make up stories for myself about people I don’t know.
I like telling stories with my camera; my stories and your stories.
I think I might be invisible. My reasoning? I am almost never able to set off motion sensor toilets at airports.
I have lived in four countries: the States, Guatemala, Japan and Canada, but I only speak a little bit of Spanish, a few words in Japanese and I say “hey” way more than “eh.” I blame being an American for my lack of language skills.
I am a photographer and I am available to shoot worldwide.
Life is good.
xo,
Jesse
