Oh boy. I am lagging a bit on the blogging and am super behind on posting my L.A.A.W. post for last week. Bad Jesse. I’ll not run on with excuses, but rest assured I have some.

So this weeks photo from the archives is once again a bit of a series, but it has to be. See, these photos were taken by my very first digital camera. Some version of a 2004-ish Canon point and shoot. It went through a lot: a break-up (mine), a fashplant into the cement (the camera, not me), a plane ride, and a few months of my life in Japan. And then one day, in the Spring, it died. It’s last photos though were of hanami (cherry blossoms) in Japan. The blooming of the cherry blossoms is a BIG deal in Japan and I was out with my Japanese friend, Yoshimi, happily snapping away when things started to shift and eventually, I knew, my camera’s days were over. Sad, yes. But I have found a ways to move on, mostly through retail therapy, specially new cameras -four since this lil guy.

So I dedicate this post to all those dead camera’s out there. I hope that they brought your joy and that their last few days were filled with images of pretty flowers and puppies.

I did adjust some levels in this photo, but the color is how it came out of the camera and was the first indicator that things were off. Now I kind of like it.

I don’t normally do this (post two photoss) but I have been catching up on a bunch of editing and these are two of my favorite pictures I have gone through today. First, is my sister (again), and I am hoping my mother will like this one, cause Mere is actually smiling. Even if it is a tiny smile. The second one is my brother, Cam, who is growing up to be super handsome, as well as talented. I loved the light in this one especially, and Cam finally seems to be coming around to me taking photos of him, which I love even more. These were both was taken at my cousin Gillian’s awesome wedding in Winters, which I posted about here. I took lots of photos of Gillian and Paul, but I also had a chance to get some really great shots of my more immediate family.

Ms. M {Tasty Tuesday #36}

August 17, 2010

Another Tuesday and it’s Tasty. I have to admit that I have no idea where Reuben came up with this name, but I liked the idea of having an excuse to post old photos, so I asked if I could jump on the Tasty Tuesday wagon on flickr and then hijacked it as a motivation to blog. So this weeks photos from the archives isn’t that old, it is only from about a month ago. I know already that my mother is not going to like this photo of her youngest daughter (cause Ms. M is not smiling in the photo), but I like this one all the same. Photography gives me a chance to capture a moment in time (this one was one two hundredth of a second in Mere’s life) and I love being able to look back on the brief moment in time. In this one Mere is either talking about what she is going to order (we were at a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown in San Fran)  or she was talking about her Italian friend who we didn’t manage to meet up with til later in the week. Either way it is a moment of her life and for that I like it.

So this week I am headed back down to California; this time for my cousin’s wedding. I am pretty giddy about the wedding, though not nearly as giddy as I was for my own. I have come to LOVE weddings and I am especially excited for Gillian’s, in large part because she is family. And I love my family. Kevin and I will be attending the rehearsal dinner, a rafting trip and finally the big day, so it promises to be a fun filled trip. I am planning to do my best to embarrass Gillian during the rehearsal dinner (we have a bit of a tradition in our family of roasting the couple the night before); all I will say now is “Look guys! They jiggle.”  So, in honor of California, and weddings this photo from the archives comes from the day after my own wedding and was taken in California. If you look closely you can spot the hawk (you should know by now I am have a big thing for birds.

Another Tuesday is another excuse to dig through the archives on my harddrive! When Kevin and I got married we got to go to the San Rafael Civic Center to get our marriage license. I have seen this building many times driving along the 580, but this was the first time I got to go in. And what a treat it was. For all you Bay Area brides and brides to be, if you have any reason to go here bring along your photographer. Designed by Frank Lloyd right this place is beautiful and a kick back to the 70′s. I recommend getting dressed up and making a photo-shoot out of the whole “signing the paperwork” ordeal. Granted the desk of the woman who filled out our forms was the messiest desk I have ever seen, but the rest of the building is amazing. This is how you get in (from one of the many sides):

Is it Tuesday again? I almost forgot. Well better a bit late than never. This photo, from the archives, comes from my drive down to California for my wedding. I am going to be heading back to Cali in a couple weeks, for a couples weeks, and I am excited to see my newly engaged friends and attend my cousins wedding. Til then enjoy sun and seagulls. This was snapped on the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles (my favorite international border crossing). I swear the bird as following us to America, he/she? drafted off the ferry for at least 20 minutes.

Well it took a long while for summer to arrive in Victoria, but it has made it! I have been swimming in Thetis (once even with some dogs in life jackets) and I’ve been enjoying the sun. Enough talk about Juneuary and grey days! The sun is shining and I am happy. Happy! So, I thought I would do a Tasty Tuesday post; I dug through my archives and found a photo that expresses my sentiments exactly:

Thank you Kelsey for modeling (last summer) and all the great times shooting this summer!

I haven’t blogged my Tasty Tuesdays in a while (they mostly just make it to my flickr account). So, for those who don’t know what TT are, they are basically old photos from my archives. The name comes from my friend Reuben, and you can check out the original TT here. When I went looking through my archives today though, I found some out takes from a portfolio shot I did for school, so I thought I would show the outtakes and the portfolio shot. A little background for all you non-rowers out there. When you compete in rowing you where a uni-suit, which lead me to the idea of shooting Kevin, my fiance and world champion rower, in a regular ol’ suit in his boat and a uni-suit in an office. So, first the shot from my portfolio:

And now the outtakes, which garnered Kevin and me quite a few comments from the Masters team at Elk Lake.

Kevin looking “cute.”

And Kevin with his “fierce” face.

T-Rex Tasty Tuesday (#14)

February 2, 2010

This weeks TT comes from a visit to my Dad’s house a few years ago. I love going home and playing with my little brother and all his action figures. I didn’t have too many action figures growing up as a child, but my little brother does, so we have fun making stop motion films and putting together lego sets whenever I go visit. This photo is from a little reenactment we did before filming our first movie together (which you can see here). Please keep in mind that I made this with my nine year old brother and he was the director, and I was just the editor.

Post-Op (Tasty Tuesday #13)

January 26, 2010

This installation of Tasty Tuesday comes from almost exactly two years ago. I had just undergone my third (and last, *knock on wood*) knee operation. It was a pretty hardcore operation; arthroscopic operations hadn’t done the trick, so my surgeon decided they had to go in and carve up me knee, big time (hence the staples). Afterwards I was stuck in bed with me knee locked out straight for six weeks! Needless to say I went a little stir crazy. I didn’t take very many scenic photos while stuck in bed, so here is a diptych from my more immediate surroundings.

Getting staples taken out was on of the more distressing things I have ever had to experience.
