Home for the Honeymoon Sneak Peek

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of working with the awesome women from Home from the Honeymoon. These ladies have started a bridal registry that I think is very appropriate for the times we live in. Like many couples Kevin and I had a toaster, plates and a couch long before we got married, so we spent a lot of time trying to think of what to tell people to get us when we got married. If this sounds like you then you should consider registering with Home for the Honeymoon. You’ll be hearing more about this as I have a ton of photos to share, because on Saturday I did some promotional shots for these ladies and had a blast! The morning was spent with two awesome models, Paige and Tyler, from Coultish and in the afternoon we headed to the studio for some shots of Patricia, Christina and Marion. Jenn and Eric were the perfect couple to end my 2011 wedding season on. Their relaxed wedding was full of lovely touches and they have a lot of people in their lives who clearly love them a lot. The fabulous ladies over at Verbena Floral Design did a great job with the flowers and as always the staff at beautiful Sea Cider did a spot on job running the show.

Joann + David = Married!

I am not going to lie, Joann and David’s wedding might be wedding that I was looking forward to the most for 2011. This may be in part because Joann was the first bride to book me for 2011, or it could be because I just knew that she was going to have an awesome wedding. And she did! Joann and David picked the perfect (ie shady) spot in Beacon Hill Park to get married at and their reception at the Fireside Grill was cozy and delicious. The wedding party was a lot of fun to shoot and aside from Joann asking me “Jesse, just where are you taking us?” as I marched her thru tall grass, I think everyone had a good time. Huge congrats to Joann and David. I wish you all the best in this next step of your life together and Joann, if you do get a pug let me know and I’ll bring Charlie over and we can watch them snort (and fart) together.

Emily + Craig :: Victoria Wedding Photography

Emily and Craig got married on Saturday and I for one had a blast. Emily and Craig really were destined to be together; her last name is Mintz and his is York and together they are York Mintz! Does it get any better than that? I think not. Emily and Craig planned a perfect day, which made my job of capturing it a breeze. Emily looked stunning (but a girl with a smile as big as Emily’s is always going to look amazing) and Craig seemed calmed and cool all day (and it was hot that day!) Congrats Emily and Craig, hope you two have an amazing time on you honeymoon!

Andrew and Sara {Vancouver Wedding Photography}

Two weeks ago I headed over to Vancouver for another adventure in JK Wedding Photography (J = Me! and K = Kelsey). After making the obligatory stop at Ikea, we met up with my friend Jeremiah for dinner and on Saturday we had a fantastic time photographing Sara and Andrews wedding. Sara and Andrew were so happy to get married that they seemed giddy all day. Neither one appeared the least bit stressed and this may have been in large part due to the amazing job that Tara Thorp did. Congratulations to Sara and Andrew! And as always it is a pleasure second shooting for KGOODPHOTO!

The Lovely Ladies of Diamond Dogs {Victoria Pet Photography}

It’s tough running a dog daycare and grooming business. Just ask Samie-Pearl and Megan from Diamond Dogs.

There are dogs to supervise.

There are dogs to wash.

There are dogs to groom.

There are dogs to walk. There are tricks to be taught.

There are heads to scratch.Treats to be given out.
And even kisses to give. Despite all the hard work you can tell that both Samie and Megan LOVE dogs and will take good care of yours, whether it is dog sitting for the day, bathing or grooming.

I’ve heard from two people that these ladies are the absolute best at cutting dogs hair. And I am teaming up with them to do a photo special on June 4th!

Makes Me Feel Pretty :: Life As A Wife Week #50

One of the perks of working in the industry that I do is that I know a lot of creative people who are uber talented at what they do. Sharon Rai is one of those people. She is an awesome Hair and Makeup Artist and after helping her out at Inn Love, she offered to do my hair and make up for, just for fun. So of course, I had to take some photos once I was all dolled up. And let me tell you that I felt a bit like Barbie after Sharon did all this work. Since I didn’t feel like trekking off with my tripod I asked Kevin if he would do the photoshoot with me, and he did an amazing job! I figured a shoot like this would be good practice for the two wedding he is shooting with me this summer and after doing a mini refresher on f-stops and shutter speeds Kevin was all set. What do you think?

Kevin isn’t a huge fan of sun-splosions near/on peoples heads, but I kind of like it, even though my hair looks about twice as big – being all backlit and all.

Tom Selleck {Victoria Pet Photography}

What can I say about Tom Selleck? He is full of energy, loves to chase his ball and will happily rip the price tag off of any new dog toy. Granted this Tom Selleck is a dog, but he was the celebrity of the evening all the same. I had a great time hanging out with Lindsay and her fun loving golden doodle, after hours at a Canadian Tire Store. Shooting in a closed store reminded me of the time I got to roller skate inside my own house when I was kid. It was lots of fun, but felt a little wrong. I was also grateful that Tom’s tummy was behaving, as Lindsay had said that he wasn’t feeling well and had thrown up earlier in the day. Turns out my own dog also had some stomach problems that day, but my husband was the one who dealt with the mess and by the time I got home my floors were squeaky clean.

I just love it when dogs blink for the camera!

Getting Published!

A few weeks ago I was delighted to be published on Style Me Pretty and today I opened my mailbox with more good news about getting published on La Belle Bride. What a great Spring it has been so far! Now if only the weather would reflect my mood!

Les and Esme :: 55 years of Marriage

I subscribe to a number of wedding blogs and I love drinking my morning coffee and browsing thru them on a regular basis. I love to see other people’s creativity and get inspired by all the different things people are doing with weddings. The one thing that I haven’t seen on any of these blogs though is a shoot show casing a married couple that have spent most of their life together. I married my husband because I want to grow old with him, so I decided to find a couple that had grown old together and I would photograph them in the same way so many new and soon-to-be-married couples are being photographed. So without further adieu meet Les and Esme!

I love Les and Esme’s story, they met at a wedding! How perfect is that! She was a good friend of the bride and he was a groomsman. A year and a day after they met they were married in Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island. They also recently found out that their grandchild is engaged. Their own mini-schnauzer passed a few years ago, but my friend Carolyne lent me a hand with the shoot and brought along her lil furball Finn. Les and Esme were immediately smitten.

It was such a delight to work with this awesome couple and I have to give a huge thanks to Erica, from Rook and Rose Floral Boutique for helping me make this happen! Also many thanks to Sharon Rai for doing the hair and makeup and North Park Bikes for lending me a beautiful Pashley Bike.
